Nuclear Science and Technology Research Center in Long Khánh City
On August 9, Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat led a delegation to inspect the progress of the Nuclear Science and Technology Research Center project and worked in Long Khánh City.
Also participating in the inspection delegation were Mr. Tran Chi Thanh - Director of the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute; Mr. Nguyen Tuan Khai - Director of the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Agency; and Ms. Tran Bich Ngoc - Head of the Atomic Energy Department.
At the working session, Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat briefed on the information of the Nuclear Science and Technology Research Center project, on its role and the advantages of building the Nuclear Science and Technology Research Center, which will have an impact on the development of science and technology in the locality and the development of other fields not only in Long Khánh City but also in Dong Nai Province and the region.
Mr. Tăng Quốc Lập - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Long Khánh City also presented some opinions on the project of building the Nuclear Science and Technology Research Center, such as: disseminating information on the safety of the project and setting up a project information center in Long Khánh City.
Safety of the nuclear project in Dong Nai
Responding to the concerns of local leaders, the members of the inspection delegation clarified further on the safety of the project, environmental protection, and nuclear safety.
According to that, the Nuclear Science and Technology Research Center with the main component being a small nuclear reactor aimed at producing radioactive isotopes for medical and industrial purposes; neutron-irradiated silicon doping to produce semiconductor materials…
Upon completion of the project, Long Khánh City will become the second center of Vietnam after Da Lat City in the development of nuclear medicine.
During the implementation of the phase of approving the location of the center and reporting on the feasibility study of the project, the project management board will organize a delegation of Long Khánh City and Dong Nai Province to visit the Da Lat Nuclear Research Institute, to obtain more accurate information on the level of safety as a basis for organizing public communication and propaganda to local residents.
Speaking at the conclusion of the inspection, Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat requested the project management board to coordinate with the contractor to accelerate the progress of the mine clearance work, ensuring absolute safety during the mine clearance process and subsequent work;
Coordinate closely with the main contractor - the Russian state-owned design institute and subcontractors to prepare for the survey work according to regulations; soon complete the design plan to ensure the conditions for drafting and approving the detailed master plan 1/500 of the project;
Coordinate with Long Khánh City to establish a communication unit at Long Khánh City; Quan triệt the implementation of the project according to the regulations of the law,
After the working session at the People's Committee of Hang Gon Commune, the inspection delegation went to the site to inspect the progress of the project, checking the progress of the mine clearance work.
The mine clearance work of the project has been implemented since July 15, 2024, and is still in the process of implementation to ensure safety in building the project according to the schedule and roadmap signed in the memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation.
