On the afternoon of June 28, Nam Hai Lang Commune People's Committee (Quang Tri province) confirmed that it is coordinating with units to clarify the cause of fish deaths on the Thac Ma River.
Previously, on the morning of the same day, people discovered many dead fish carcasses drifting ashore in the section passing through Tay Chanh village, mainly canal fish living in surface water.
Mr. Tran Huu Bac - Chairman of Nam Hai Lang Commune People's Committee said that the Commune Economic Department and Commune Police have come to the scene to inspect and take dead fish samples to send for inspection.
The dead fish are mostly fish that live in the surface layer, the belly is not swollen but soft, based on the experience of people living by the river, dead fish may be affected by illegal fishing methods, such as using explosives. The cause is not yet clear, we have taken samples and sent them to functional agencies for inspection and clarification" - Mr. Tran Huu Bac said.
In the afternoon of the same day, Nam Hai Lang Commune People's Committee mobilized people to pick up dead fish on the river to avoid causing water source pollution.
