On August 28, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Duong Tan Hien signed and issued Official Dispatch No. 3700, conveying the opinion of the Chairman of the City People's Committee on strengthening responsibility and rectifying state management of domestic solid waste.
Accordingly, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City requested the Chairmen of the People's Committees of districts and towns, based on their assigned functions and tasks, to strengthen their responsibilities and rectify the state management of domestic solid waste in the area.
In addition, thoroughly resolve the problem of littering and uncollected waste that pollutes the environment, creates bad odors, affects the life and activities of the community and urban aesthetics. Be responsible to the City People's Committee if the above waste situation occurs.
The Chairman of the City People's Committee requested criticism and review of the responsibilities of individuals, units and organizations involved in the delay in consulting on management and handling, leading to the prolonged situation of widespread waste in the area, causing unsanitary conditions and negatively affecting the reputation and image of the City government among the people and domestic and foreign tourists.
Direct the People's Committees of communes, wards and towns to strictly implement regulations on solid waste collection and treatment; propagate and mobilize people to strictly implement regulations on environmental protection for solid waste; do not discharge or leave waste indiscriminately, and dump waste in designated places.
Report implementation results and difficulties and problems (if any) to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment for synthesis no later than August 31, 2024.
Publicly announce the hotline number to receive feedback and recommendations on environmental pollution from organizations and individuals to the community in the management area; deploy timely prevention and handling measures according to prescribed authority.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City requested the Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, based on the assigned functions and tasks, to preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies and the People's Committees of districts and towns, to strengthen the responsibility of state management on environmental protection, inspect, supervise and guide the implementation of current legal regulations on management, collection, classification, storage, transportation and treatment of domestic solid waste in the area.
The document also clearly stated and instructed units to implement more fundamental, long-term, and drastic solutions according to their prescribed authority, to create a strong change in awareness, improve environmental quality to meet the increasingly high demands of society and comprehensively change environmental sanitation work in the city; report to the City People's Committee on the implementation results in September 2024.
