After the Tran Hoang Na bridge with a total investment of 791 billion VND connecting Ninh Kieu - Cai Rang districts was completed and officially opened to traffic at the end of April 2024, the construction unit continued to deploy the installation of drainage culverts, internal roads and lighting on residential roads.
However, after the landslide on the afternoon of August 23, which occurred at the construction site of a culvert under Tran Hoang Na bridge, burying two workers (one dead, one injured), the construction on this residential road has been temporarily suspended.
Regarding the above issue, speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Van Tho - Deputy Director of the ODA Project Management Board (ODA Board) of Can Tho City - said that regarding the residential road of Tran Hoang Na bridge, the ODA Board has sent a report to the City People's Committee asking for opinions to continue to re-construct this project.
“Currently, the ODA Board is waiting for the City People's Committee to respond in writing, because the City People's Committee is the project investor. If the City People's Committee agrees, the ODA Board will soon re-start the project, speeding up the progress to facilitate people's travel,” said Mr. Tho.
This residential road is the turning point for traffic from 30/4 Street to Tran Hoang Na Bridge and vice versa. However, because the residential road has not been completed, there have been many cases of cars and motorbikes driving in the wrong direction in this area, posing a potential risk of traffic accidents.
At this location, recently, the Traffic Safety Committee of Can Tho City has coordinated with relevant units to inspect and strictly handle cases of going the wrong way on Tran Hoang Na Street. However, after the absence of the functional forces, everything went back to normal.
Mr. Mai Minh Ngoan - Chief of Office of Traffic Safety Board of Can Tho City - informed that for Tran Hoang Na street, the Board hopes that people will cooperate, share with the relevant agencies, and follow the regulations to ensure traffic safety for themselves and others. The Board will widen the intersection in front of alley 49, add more pedestrian crossings, speed bumps, signs... so that drivers can pay attention and reduce speed. In addition, the Board will request the contractor and related units to urgently complete the progress and soon put the residential road under the bridge into operation.
Previously, Lao Dong reported on the situation of “The Tran Hoang Na bridge is in disarray, where a worker died”. According to the records, the residential road at the Tran Hoang Na bridge is in disarray and messy after the incident that injured and killed two construction workers.
This location has been fenced off, machinery and equipment are gathered at the foot of Tran Hoang Na bridge. All activities have stopped, no workers are working.
The Tran Hoang Na bridge residential road is blocked, making it difficult and inconvenient for residents around the area to travel and do business. Meanwhile, it is the rainy season, everything here is messy, messy, and muddy, making people feel frustrated every time they pass by.
