On August 19, information from the People's Committee of Lao Cai province, after the process of arranging administrative units, the whole province still has 279 out of a total of 604 redundant land and housing facilities that have not been handled.
Many facilities are being considered for functional conversion, auction or assignment to other units for management and use.
According to a report by the Department of Finance, the whole province currently has 4,250 real estate facilities, including 496 facilities belonging to the provincial block and 3,754 facilities belonging to the commune and ward blocks.
In the process of arranging administrative units, functional agencies have reviewed, transferred, and rearranged headquarters to take advantage of existing facilities.

Facilities that no longer need to be used are considered for conversion to serve education, health, defense, security or public purposes.
Notably, as of June 30, 2026, Lao Cai has 604 redundant land and housing facilities that need to be handled. Of which, 550 facilities arise after arrangement and 54 facilities are transferred to localities by central agencies.
By August 18, the province had completed the handling of 325 facilities, equivalent to more than half of the assets to be handled. Thus, 279 facilities are still being reviewed and completing plans.
In addition to the headquarters system, a large number of village and residential group cultural houses are also reviewed after arrangement. The whole province has 2,897 cultural houses, of which 2,737 facilities continue to be used.
There are 160 cultural houses proposed for other handling options. Among these, 72 facilities are proposed to liquidate assets attached to land and auction land use rights; 76 facilities are converted to other units for management; 6 facilities are heavily damaged or collapsed due to natural disasters.
In addition, 6 cultural houses are proposed to change land use purposes to serve the relocation of people from landslide-prone areas.
The handling of redundant real estate in Lao Cai is facing some obstacles due to the large number of establishments, management records through many periods, and inconsistent asset status.
Some facilities have deteriorated, and the location is no longer suitable for use, so the conversion of functions or auction requires more time to complete dossiers.

According to Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ngo Hanh Phuc, the handling of redundant public assets must be carried out promptly and in accordance with regulations, without leaving assets vacant, degraded or used for wrong purposes.
Mr. Ngo Hanh Phuc requested departments, branches, and localities to complete the arrangement, transfer, and handling of plans for assets in August; related procedures must be completed before December 31, 2026.
Facilities that have been converted need to prioritize serving education, healthcare and public needs.
The Department of Finance is assigned to monitor the general progress, coordinate with localities to remove obstacles and periodically summarize the handling situation to report to the Provincial People's Committee.
