Chelsea will have to pay millions of pounds to Manchester United in penalty terms if they cancel Jadon Sancho's official contract deal this summer.
Sancho joined Chelsea on loan on the last day of the 2024 summer transfer window. Accordingly, The Blues are obliged to buy the English striker for 20-25 million pounds, depending on their position in the Premier League rankings, with the condition that Chelsea must finish the season in 14th place or higher.
Enzo Maresca's side are currently fourth, 15 points ahead of 14th-placed Tottenham. However, do Chelsea want to continue this deal?
The Blues will have to pay Man United a significant amount of money to cancel the deal and bring the English winger back to Old Trafford. Sancho has scored two goals in 29 appearances for Chelsea, but has not scored in his last 19 appearances. The former Dortmund player has not had any assists in the past two months.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have agreed to sign winger Geovany Quenda of Sporting CP. And they have also signed Brazilian teenager Estevao Willian, who will travel to Stamford Bridge this summer after loaning it to Palmeiras.
Sancho, a player who was bought for £73 million from Dortmund in 2021, has only played once for Man United since August 2023. Former M.U coach Erik ten Hag sent him out of the first team for 4 months last season. After that, Sancho returned to Dortmund on loan, helping them reach the Champions League final.
The 24-year-old came off the bench for Man United in the English Super Cup this season. However, Sancho was later loaned to Chelsea and Man United still had to pay a significant part of his salary.
Last week, "Red Devils" co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe named Sancho among the players who are not worthy of a high income at Old Trafford. Therefore, they will hope to use the money from his proposal to Chelsea to strengthen the squad.

In case Sancho returns, according to British media, Man United will let Amorim decide everything about the future. In fact, Sancho could fit into the creative 'number 10' role in Amorim's favoured 3-4-3 formation. However, his attitude and personal troubles will make keeping Sancho a risky gamble.
If Chelsea really refuse to buy, Man United must solve the future of a player who does not meet professional requirements but also has attitude problems.
