Manchester United has created a lot of attention in the 2024 summer transfer window but perhaps the biggest deal has yet to happen.
Raheem Sterling - former Liverpool and Manchester City player - is emerging as a shocking target for Man United as the 2024 summer market is about to close. A swap deal with Chelsea would see Jadon Sancho move in the opposite direction.
Sterling's impressive arrival could throw an already busy transfer window at Old Trafford into chaos. Manuel Ugarte is expected to soon be confirmed as the fifth contract of the "Red Devils" this summer. Paris St Germain accepted Man United's offer worth £42.3 million and £8.4 million in additional fees.
The 23-year-old midfielder will add a new dimension to Man United's midfield and threaten Casemiro's position. With a strong defensive tendency, Ugarte will partner Kobbie Mainoo, with Bruno Fernandes returning to the attacking midfielder role. Joshua Zirkzee, at full fitness, will still be prioritized as a central striker until Rasmus Hojlund returns from injury.
In defense, left-back Luke Shaw is still injured with Diogo Dalot as a temporary replacement. Central defender Leny Yoro is also sidelined, with Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez likely to be Man United 's starting pair in the near future.
One position where Ten Hag has no shortage of options is on the flanks in attack. This makes the "Red Devils"'s move to recruit Sterling more unpredictable. The Englishman's ability to play as a virtual "number 9" could be an attraction for Ten Hag. However, throughout his career so far, Sterling has mainly played on the left wing.
As the 2024 summer transfer window closes, Man United fans will become excited at the prospect of two more signings, although Ten Hag has called for calm.
"Be patient, sit down and wait. We are still working very hard. We will always try to make the best squad possible. We have a few days left and we will always improve. As long as we have a chance, we will look for it" - Ten Hag said before Man United's 1-2 loss to Brighton.
