December has passed more than half and this is the time to continue to witness Arsenal's difficulties. The same question has been raised since last year: do they need a new striker in the January transfer window?
The goalless draw with Everton has caused Arsenal many difficulties in the Premier League championship race this season. The gap with leaders Liverpool is not big but could have been narrowed if the "Gunners" knew how to score.
Mikel Arteta's side had 13 shots on target and created enough expected goals (xG) to deserve a win. However, once again, their attack was unlucky.
"It's very disappointing not to win this game. You don't let the opponent have a shot on target, no dangerous runs or corners. Arsenal created chances but didn't score. That is what we lacked today," said Arteta.
In their last three Premier League games, Arsenal's attacking quality has been questioned. They relied on corners to find goals in games against Man United and Fulham, before being completely helpless against Everton.
As Arsenal struggle to break down a low defence, they at least have the strength from set pieces to rely on. However, against Everton, coach Sean Dyche's team locked Arsenal in dead-ball situations.
And of course, when a team fails to score, the attack is the first position to be targeted. Kai Havertz is not a natural centre-forward but his form is still very difficult to accept. The German international has only scored one goal in his last eight Premier League appearances.
"There were small details in the box that we couldn't do. We didn't find the final pass. Sometimes I think the positioning in the box is not perfect, so we have to look at that and improve in the next matches" - Havertz said after missing many opportunities against Everton.
However, Havertz has still scored more goals in all competitions this season than Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus, Leandro Trossard and Raheem Sterling combined. Although Havertz deserves criticism, he also lacks support from the satellites around him.
Gabriel Jesus has only scored 1 goal in his last 33 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions. With only five appearances outside the Carabao Cup this season, it seems Arteta's faith in the Brazilian is fading.
