In their second consecutive Premier League match, after a 1-1 draw with Fulham, Arsenal had to regret not being able to turn the overwhelming situation into a goal.
The 0-0 draw with Everton was another match that showed the need for The Gunners to strengthen their attack. Obviously, they are lacking a "number 9" capable of finishing the match.
In fact, Kai Havertz has impressed in this role. Havertz's late goal in the midweek Champions League win over AS Monaco took Havertz's double-digit tally this season. However, that only included 5 goals in the Premier League and Havertz could not be Arsenal's main striker. During the 90 minutes against Everton, the German international only had 1 shot.
Arsenal need more from their centre-forwards, and they don't seem to be getting that from alternatives like Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian has not scored in the Premier League since January. Like Havertz, Jesus did not create many threats after coming on in the second half.
The Gunners' progress over the past two years has been driven by their ability to share goals. It should be noted that they broke the club's record with a total of 91 goals last season.
However, to get to the next level, they will need a classy striker. Obviously, in stalemates, The Gunners do not have the "number 9" model to make a difference in just one moment.
Their efforts to sign Benjamin Sesko this summer show they are aware of that. But as the January transfer window approaches, Arsenal cannot continue to be superficial with the attack issue.
Since arriving at the Emirates in 2019, Arteta has helped the "Gunners" make great strides and become a competitive team. However, what Arsenal fans need most is the Premier League and Champions League titles that have not yet come.
From now until the winter transfer window opens, Arteta will need to prove his ability to turn things around and get the team back on track. And after that, they cannot afford to delay any longer in recruiting a new striker.
"You need to be explosive and precise. We can win 2-0, 3-0 in this match and no one criticizes anything. But the reality is 0-0 and the incredible things we did will not be mentioned," Arteta said after the 0-0 draw with Everton.
