In the final match of Group A of ASEAN Cup 2026, the Indonesian team drew 1-1 with Singapore. They led 1-0 from the 47th minute thanks to Ragnar Oratmangoen's goal.
If they can keep the victory, the island nation team will have a ticket to the semi-finals. However, in the 66th minute, striker Ilhan Fandi equalized 1-1, after a situation of inconsistency between the goalkeeper and the Indonesian defender.
With a 1-1 draw, the Indonesian team was officially eliminated when ranked 3rd in Group A. They won 7 points, after defeating Cambodia 5-1, Timor-Leste 3-0 but losing to Vietnam 0-3 and drawing with Singapore 1-1. The Singaporean team entered the semi-finals in 2nd place in Group A with 8 points. The top of the group is the Vietnamese team with 10 points.
Being eliminated right in the group stage of the ASEAN Cup 2026 is a disappointing achievement for the Indonesian team, because this is a tournament where they sent a fairly strong squad, with the ambition to win the championship for the first time. Statistics show that this is the 6th time in history that Garuda (nickname of the Indonesian team) has been eliminated right in the group stage after the tournaments in 2007, 2012, 2014, 2018 and 2024.
In addition, the Indonesian team also finished second 6 times in the ASEAN Cup 2000, 2002, 2004, 2010, 2016 and 2020.
We are very disappointed with this result, surely fans are too. I apologize. We will have assessments to make changes at the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026," Indonesian captain Rizky Ridho said after the draw with Singapore.
At FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026, the Indonesian team plays in Group A of the Premier Division. They play at home, in the same group as the Singapore, India and Malaysia teams. Meanwhile, Group B includes Vietnam, Pakistan, Thailand and the Philippines. The tournament matches will take place from September 24 to October 3.
