Khanh Hoa - The Traffic Police Department has identified a vehicle carrying scrap metal that spilled materials onto the highway, causing more than 100 vehicles to have punctured and damaged tires.

On August 8, the Traffic Police Department had information related to the incident of more than 100 vehicles being recorded with punctured and damaged tires after many sharp metal materials were scattered on about 337km of highway through many localities.

Previously, on the morning of August 6, during patrols on the Da Nang - Quang Ngai, Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon, Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon, Quy Nhon - Chi Thanh and Chi Thanh - Van Phong expressways, the Traffic Police force discovered many sharp metal materials scattered on the road surface, posing a potential danger to people and vehicles traveling.

To date, functional forces have recorded more than 100 vehicles with punctured and damaged tires. Units have organized the collection of materials scattered on about 337km of highway.

Immediately after discovering the incident, functional forces deployed to verify and search for the vehicle identified as being related to the dropping of scrap on the road.

At about 9:40 am on August 6, Highway Traffic Police Team No. 5 in coordination with Highway Traffic Police Team No. 6 stopped and inspected a tractor-trailer pulling a semi-trailer.

Through verification, the vehicle was driven by V.D. T. (born in 1990) and V.V.T. (born in 1992), both from Thanh Hoa. The vehicle was carrying industrial waste and scrap from Thanh Hoa to Ho Chi Minh City.

According to initial verification information, goods began to spill from about Km65 on the Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway to Km1325 on the Chi Thanh - Van Phong expressway, with a total length of about 337km.

Functional forces initially determined that the vehicle had violations related to spilling goods; the driver did not have a driver's license, used a phone while driving, did not fasten the seat belt and did not use a driver's ID card.

Currently, the case is continuing to be verified, clarifying the responsibilities of the driver, vehicle owner and related organizations and individuals.

Functional forces are also statistically analyzing the damage of affected vehicles to have a basis for handling according to regulations.

The incident shows that the transportation of scrap and goods on the highway needs to be shielded and tied to ensure safety. Letting materials fall on the road can be directly dangerous for vehicles in traffic.
