Midfielder Moises Caicedo joined Chelsea in the summer of 2023 for £115 million. After an unimpressive first year under coach Pochettino, he began to shine in his second season.
Caicedo has played all 19 Premier League games for Chelsea under manager Enzo Maresca this season. Legendary Gary Neville believes the former Brighton star has improved significantly, according to Metro: “He was fantastic at Brighton. Then when he went to Chelsea, he wasn’t as impressive. His partnership with Enzo Fernandez in midfield didn’t work. But he’s been better this season, things are going much smoother.”
Chelsea have recently gone three consecutive games without a win in the Premier League. This has also been accompanied by a dip in form for Moises Caicedo. Neville believes the return of Enzo Fernandez has affected the former Brighton midfielder's form.
“I think when he played alongside Lavia, he played better. Recently, Enzo Fernandez has also returned to the first team. Since then, Caicedo has not looked impressive anymore,” he continued.
Similar to Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez is also a blockbuster with a price tag of £105 million. After a poor start to the season, the Argentine star has recently returned and is continuously scoring and assisting. This also creates a difficult situation for Enzo Maresca, because he cannot continue to leave Enzo Fernandez on the bench.
Meanwhile, former Chelsea assistant Jody Morris rated Caicedo as better than Cole Palmer. Morris shared on Rio Ferdinand Presents: “If we talk about the team of the season, Caicedo and Ryan Gravenberch played better than anyone.
Caicedo has been better than Cole Palmer this year. If you're talking about team of the season, who has been better than Caicedo? I just look at pure performance, I haven't seen Caicedo have a bad game."
