Man City announced that Laporte and Mahrez's health conditions are still stable and there are no symptoms of infection. However, the duo will still have to go through a period of self-isolation, with treatment expected to last more than 14 days.
"Manchester City FC can confirm that Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte have tested positive for COVID-19. Both players are currently complying with self- must-isolate regulations according to the Premier League and the UK government.
The couple has no symptoms of infection and are in a fairly stable condition. Everyone at the club wishes Riyad and Aymeric a quick recovery and can return to training before the new season begins," Man City's announcement stated.
Riyad Mahrez (29 years old) and Aymeric Laporte (26 years old) are not the first professional football players to test positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus recently. PSG's trio of stars Neymar, Angel Di Maria and Leandro Paredes were infected with COVID-19 after the Ibiza break.
There have been many unfortunate infections in the Premier League. The French duo, Paul Pogba (Man United) and Tanguy Ndombele (Tottenham), tested positive for the test in the training session with the national team. Chelsea also have 6 infections but have not revealed their identities.
In total, the Premier League has had 14 infections recorded from 12 clubs. Except for this group, the teams have returned to training before the new season 3 weeks ago. The Premier League will return this Saturday, but it will not be until September 21 that Man City will have their opening match against Wolves. Organizing the tournament and ensuring disease prevention will be the top concern for the tournament organizing committee.
