As of January 27, Premier League clubs have spent twice as much in the winter transfer window as they did last season. The amount of money is expected to increase in the final days as there are many credible transfer rumours.
The current spending of the 20 Premier League clubs is £234m. This is double the figure of last season but will be nothing compared to 2023. In the winter transfer window two seasons ago, the amount of money thrown in was £600m. Then, tighter financial sustainability regulations caused spending to plummet.
After suffering their worst form slump of the Pep Guardiola era, Man City have splashed the cash in the winter transfer window, bringing in three new players for a combined fee of £126.1m. The Premier League champions have signed Omar Marmoush (Eintracht Frankfurt, £63.2m), Vitor Reis (Palmeiras, £29.4m) and Abdukodir Khusanov (Lens, £33.5m).
Although the 2025 winter transfer window has not closed yet, The Citizens have broken the spending record in this transfer window. The old record was 116.2 million pounds. This figure of the Etihad team is expected to not stop when there are rumors that they will recruit Andrea Cambiaso and Douglas Luiz (Juventus) or Juma Bah (Real Valladolid).
It is expected that in the final days, the market in England will heat up when, in addition to Man City, there are many other big teams looking to buy new players such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham and West Ham.
Arsenal are closely following Benjamin Sesko (RB Leipzig) and Matheus Cunha (Wolves). Meanwhile, Chelsea are pouring money into detonating the "blockbuster" Alejandro Garnacho (Man United). As for the "Red Devils", Ruben Amorim is desperate for an explosive left-back, so he has put Patrick Dorgu (Lecce) in his sights. As for West Ham, they are negotiating with Leipzig to get the signature of striker Andre Silva.
Of these deals, Garnacho's move to Chelsea is the most anticipated. If M.U sells the Argentine striker, they will earn at least £50 million, opening the way for Amorim to buy a versatile left-back.
The Premier League winter transfer window will close at 11pm on February 3 (local time), or early morning on February 4 (Vietnam time).
