Manchester City's 5-0 home win over Sparta Prague in the Champions League in midweek has seen Pep Guardiola's side climb to second in the 36-team standings.
They also became the first team in the history of the European Cup/Champions League to go 26 games unbeaten in the competition, breaking the previous record held by neighbours Man United (25).
Back in the Premier League, The Citizens are the only team yet to lose after eight games. They are second in the table with 17 points and will temporarily top the table with a win over Southampton, before Liverpool take on Arsenal on Sunday.
Man City are on their longest ever unbeaten run in the Premier League (31). The Etihad side will be confident having won 10 of their 13 meetings with Southampton.
On the other hand, the visitors are in poor form. Southampton have not won a game since the start of the tournament (D1 L7). In the previous round, they led Leicester 2-0 in the first half, but the Foxes then turned the situation around and won 3-2.
The Saints are now winless in 21 Premier League games (D5 L16). The pressure is mounting on head coach Russell Martin, but it appears the club's board have no plans to part ways with him at this stage.
Southampton are 19th in the Premier League table with just one point, but are just three points from safety. However, getting a positive result against Man City will be a difficult task.
