Overview
Roberto De Zerbi is actively preparing for the new season after seeing major challenges at Tottenham since taking over the team at the end of last season.
The Italian coach has helped Spurs avoid the risk of relegation to the Championship and is strongly backed by the board of directors in the transfer market.
Tottenham have completed notable deals with Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, Jan Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senesi. Besides, Manchester City's Savinho and Liverpool's Cody Gakpo are still on Spurs' list of important targets.
The results on the field also bring positive signs for De Zerbi. Tottenham won all four pre-season friendly matches, defeating MK Dons, Auckland FC, Sydney FC and Chelsea respectively.
The most notable was the 2-1 victory over Chelsea last weekend. Spurs had to play with 10 men from the beginning of the second half after Kevin Danso received a red card for fouling Joao Pedro when the two teams were tied 1-1. However, Richarlison scored the decisive goal in the 90+2 minute, helping Tottenham continue to maintain their all-win record in the pre-season period.
Meanwhile, Getafe has a less impressive preparation under Jose Bordalas. The Madrid team started the summer with a 1-0 victory over Reading, then defeated Tenerife 2-1 and drew 0-0 with Real Valladolid.
Getafe's unbeaten streak ended in the match against Atletico Madrid last week, when they suffered a 1-4 defeat. This was also their heaviest defeat in the pre-season period.
Getafe will have the opportunity to regain confidence when traveling to London to face Tottenham at the Enfield training center.
This is only the second time Tottenham and Getafe have faced each other in history. The only previous time was in the group stage of the UEFA Cup in the 2007-2008 season, when Getafe won 2-1 at White Hart Lane.
Personnel situation
Mateus Fernandes was absent from Tottenham's match against Sydney FC due to calf muscle fatigue. The 22-year-old midfielder continued to be absent from the 2-1 victory over Chelsea. However, De Zerbi reassured fans by confirming that Fernandes was not seriously injured and would return to training.
Mohammed Kudus and Dejan Kulusevski are also progressing positively in the process of recovering from thigh and knee injuries. Meanwhile, Xavi Simons still needs more time to return after a serious knee ligament injury suffered at the beginning of the year.
On Getafe's side, the Spanish team entered the match with an energetic force. Martin Satriano is one of the notable bright spots in the pre-season period. He scored 2 goals in 4 appearances, thereby gaining more confidence before the away trip to London.
Getafe is also aiming for a new season with the goal of competing in European arenas. After strengthening the force in the summer, coach Jose Bordalas focuses on building cohesion and excitement before entering the 2026-2027 campaign.
Expected lineup:
Tottenham: Kinsky, Gray, Van Hecke, Davies, Robertson, Bergvall, Tonali, Gallagher, Solomon, Tel, Richarlison.
Getafe: Soria, Femenia, Abqar, Romero, Davinchi, Uche, Martin, Terrats, Lopez, Satriano, Mayoral.
The match between Tottenham and Getafe takes place at 9:00 p.m. on August 8 (Vietnam time).
