Manchester United are close to extending contracts with two English stars, Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire. Both have become important factors since coach Michael Carrick temporarily took over the team in January, and the board wants to keep them with new deals.
Mainoo and Maguire both revived strongly under Carrick, after a period of not being favored when Ruben Amorim was still in charge. Mainoo once considered the possibility of moving to Napoli in the winter transfer window, while Maguire faced an uncertain future when his contract was about to expire and had to compete fiercely in defense.
This duo started all 10 matches under Carrick, contributing to changing the face of the team and being called up to the England national team under coach Thomas Tuchel for friendly matches with Uruguay and Japan. Before the 2026 summer transfer window opened, Man United decided to quickly finalize their future.

According to British media, the Old Trafford club is about to reach a new agreement with both players. Mainoo currently has a contract until June 2027 but belongs to the low-paying group in the team. After impressive performances, the 20-year-old midfielder who grew up from the academy is expected to sign a new contract until 2031 with significantly improved treatment.
Meanwhile, Maguire is likely to extend for another year, with an option to extend for another 12 months. The current contract of the 33-year-old center-back will expire on June 30 and before that he was once facing the risk of being liquidated, similar to Casemiro's case.
Under Carrick's leadership, Man United won 7/10 matches, with Mainoo and Maguire playing key roles. The Old Trafford home team is still third in the Premier League despite just drawing 2-2 with Bournemouth and holding a great advantage in the race to win a Champions League spot next season.
The "Red Devils" also confirmed that they will appoint a full-time coach next summer. However, the impressive streak of achievements is helping Carrick score strongly, and the extension of contracts with players he trusts shows that the leadership is leaning towards the possibility of giving long-term opportunities to this strategist.
In the opposite direction, Man United is preparing to enter a busy summer transfer window. Casemiro's possible departure when his contract worth 350,000 pounds/week expires forces the team to add at least one quality midfielder, in the context that Manuel Ugarte's future is still unclear.

The Old Trafford team is considering many options, including Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes (Newcastle), along with other targets such as Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace), Carlos Baleba (Brighton) and Elliot Anderson (Nottingham Forest).
After spending more than 200 million pounds in the previous summer transfer window to recruit Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Senne Lammens, Man United understand that they may have to spend about 80 million pounds if they want to own Anderson - a player who is also in Manchester City's sights.
