The two teams also met in the group stage of the 2006 World Cup, when Brazil won against Australia 2-0.

Both the Australian and Brazilian teams have passed the group stage of the 2026 World Cup. In the round of 32, the Brazilian team will face Japan, and Australia will face Egypt.
