Lamine Yamal and Pedro Porro did not participate in training with their teammates in the first training session of the Spanish national team in New Jersey on July 16 (local time). However, both are expected to be fully fit for the 2026 World Cup final against Argentina taking place at MetLife Stadium.
This duo both spent a lot of energy in the 2-0 victory over France in the semi-finals. Yamal played the full 90 minutes, while Porro was substituted in the 85th minute after feeling muscle strain.
Coach Luis de la Fuente previously confirmed that the Tottenham defender is experiencing muscle overload and will be closely monitored by the medical team before the final match of the tournament.
According to Spanish media, Yamal and Porro's separate training is only for precaution to control the exercise volume, instead of stemming from serious injuries. Both are predicted to be in the starting lineup against Argentina.
Yamal played 496 minutes at the 2026 World Cup and only did not start in the match against Cabo Verde. After the victory against France, De la Fuente also reassured fans when affirming that the Barcelona star did not have any worrying problems.
Meanwhile, Porro has taken a starting spot in the right-back position from Marcos Llorente. He played 444 minutes, scoring 2 goals, respectively against Austria in the round of 32 and France in the semi-finals.
The upcoming final will also be a rare time Spain plays outdoors at the 2026 World Cup. The northeastern United States has been affected in recent days by smoke from wildfires in Canada, causing air quality to decline. However, rain forecasts for the weekend are expected to improve weather conditions before the match in New Jersey.
