On July 4, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism approved the Project for developing Vietnamese football until 2030, with a vision to 2045.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism sets specific targets for football in arenas by 2030 as follows:
- SEA Games: Men's football strives to win medals at the 2025 SEA Games; gold medal at the 2027 SEA Games and gold medal at the 2029 SEA Games. Women's football strives to win gold medals at the 2025, 2027 and 2029 SEA Games.
- ASIAD: Men's football strives to pass the group stage of the 2026 ASIAD; strive to reach the quarter-finals of the 2030 ASIAD and then strive to reach the quarter-finals of the 2031 Asian Cup. For women's football, strive to reach the semi-finals of the 2026 and 2030 ASIAD; strive to pass the group stage of the 2026 Asian Cup and strive to reach the quarter-finals of the 2030 Asian Cup.
- Olympics, FIFA World Cup: Men's football strives to reach the 3rd qualifying round of the 2030 World Cup; strives to qualify for the 2034 World Cup; win a place to participate in at least 1 2028 or 2032 Olympics. Meanwhile, women's football strives to participate in the 2027 and 2031 World Cups; strive to win an Olympic spot at least once at the 2028 or 2032 Olympics.
Regarding the orientation to 2045, the Vietnam Football Development Project clearly states:
- SEA Games target: Men's and women's football strive to maintain the top position in Southeast Asia; gold medals at the SEA Games.
- ASIAD target: Men's football strives to maintain its position in the top 10 countries in Asia; participating in ASIAD, Asian Cups strives to win medals. Women's football strives to maintain its position in the top 5 countries in Asia; participating in the ASIAD, Asian Cup strives to win medals.
- Olympic target: Men's football strives to qualify for the World Cup in the period up to 2045. Women's football strives to maintain its right to participate in the World Cup in the period up to 2045.
In addition to specific performance targets, the Project also sets out general goals by 2030, including:
Innovation and completion of the system of selecting and training football talents; linking training of appropriate levels and classes to create resources for professional football clubs and national football teams.
Develop high-performance football according to professional orientation.
Build the Vietnam Football Federation and its member organizations to become strong organizations capable of managing and organizing most football activities in our country.
Developing facilities and techniques to serve football activities; ready to host continental and world football tournaments.
Forming and expanding the business market, football services, and football player transfer market.
Bringing our country's football to development, becoming one of the football centers of the region and continent; by 2030, it will be in the group of 10 countries with the top football development in Asia.
