On the morning of November 5, the 2024 Vietnam Golden Ball Award organized by Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper was announced in Ho Chi Minh City.
Former player Le Cong Vinh - who received the Vietnam Golden Ball award three times in 2004, 2006 and 2007 - shared his thoughts about this award.
According to the former player born in 1985, the 2024 Vietnam Golden Ball will be "more difficult to vote for" due to the change in the time of the 2024-2025 V.League season.
“Last year, the V.League lasted for 1 year, the national team also competed for 1 year. But the current V.League 2024-2025 has only gone through 6 rounds and will end next year. V.League players cannot be ignored, and the achievements of the national team will evaluate and select the most deserving players. If we choose the top 3 now, it is too early," said Le Cong Vinh.
Regarding whether or not there is “emotionality” in the votes for the Vietnam Golden Ball awards over the years, famous player Le Cong Vinh shared: “I don’t think there is any emotion in the Vietnam Golden Ball awards. The winners of those awards all deserve what they have dedicated and contributed throughout a season at their clubs and the national team.
Reporters, journalists or experts… are people who regularly follow Vietnamese football, so they choose the most worthy names from a professional perspective. If there is any emotion, it is only a small number.
The 2024 Vietnam Golden Ball Award includes 12 categories: Golden, Silver, Bronze Ball for men; Golden, Silver, Bronze Ball for women; Golden, Silver, Bronze Ball for futsal (men); Outstanding foreign player, Outstanding young male player, Outstanding young female player.
It is expected that by the end of November 2024, the organizing committee will send invitations to vote for the award along with a list of candidates to football experts, coaches of national teams, coaches, captains of V.League clubs, women's teams, futsal teams, representatives of press agencies and television stations across the country.
The 2024 Vietnam Golden Ball Awards ceremony is expected to take place in February 2025, in Ho Chi Minh City.
