The Vietnamese team has a great advantage against Malaysia when entering the second leg of the ASEAN Cup 2026 semi-final. The 2-0 victory in Kuala Lumpur helps coach Kim Sang-sik's team have a safer distance, and also play the decisive match at My Dinh Stadium.
According to the prediction of supercomputer B.S, the Vietnamese team has a 60.2% chance of winning the second leg. Meanwhile, Malaysia only has a 18.6% chance of winning, and the possibility of the two teams sharing points is assessed at 21.2%.
In case Vietnam wins, the score of 2-1 is considered the most likely scenario with 10%. The two scenarios 1-0 and 2-0 both have a probability of 9.7%, while a 3-1 victory is predicted at 6.7%.
If Malaysia creates a surprise, the score of 2-1 in favor of the away team is the scenario rated highest with a probability of 5.1%. In case the two teams draw, 1-1 is the most likely score to appear with about 9.1%.
These predictions are consistent with the pre-match balance when Vietnam has a two-goal advantage and plays at home. However, Malaysia is forced to attack to find an opportunity to reverse the game.
The force also caused difficulties for Malaysia when some players are having physical problems, including Rodney Celvin having to leave the field early in the first leg.
However, Vietnam needs to avoid repeating the lesson at the 2014 ASEAN Cup, when they once beat Malaysia 2-1 away but lost 2-4 at My Dinh.
With the current advantage, the most suitable goal for coach Kim Sang-sik's team is to control the game, limit conceding goals and aim for a victory to win a ticket to the final.
