The latest typhoon and tropical depression news on the morning of August 19th from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that tropical depression Neneng is being monitored in the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). Neneng is about 685km east of Itbayat Island, Batanes province, Philippines.
Tropical depression Neneng has the strongest wind near the center 55 km/h, gusts up to 70 km/h, moving west at a speed of 15 km/h.
Another tropical depression is also in the east of the Philippines, outside PAR, so it has not been named after PAGASA's name system. This tropical depression is about 3,115km east of the northeast of Mindanao Island. This system has winds of 55 km/h, gusts of up to 70 km/h and is slowly moving westward.
Meanwhile, the tropical depression in the East Sea, previously identified by PAGASA as the 08g depression, is also being monitored outside PAR. This tropical depression is about 650km west of Calayan, Cagayan province, Philippines. The tropical depression in the East Sea is having winds of 45 km/h, gusts of up to 55 km/h and is moving west at a speed of 20 km/h.
Along with the impact of tropical depressions, the southwest monsoon is forecast to cause rain in Luzon and the western Visayas region, including Aklan and Antique provinces. It is forecast that the southwest monsoon will continue to cause heavy rain from 100-200mm in Zambales, Occidental Mindoro and Bataan provinces.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila, La Union, Benguet, Pangasinan, Ilocos Sur, Abra, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, Rizal and Oriental Mindoro may record significant rainfall from 50-100mm.
According to PAGASA weather expert Chenel Dominguez, tropical depression Neneng will not directly affect the Philippines. This tropical depression will continue to move towards Taiwan (China) and may make landfall from the afternoon of August 20 to the morning of August 21 at low pressure intensity.
Ms. Dominguez noted that 2 tropical depressions outside PAR will basically not directly affect the weather in the Philippines. However, the tropical depression in the east of the Philippines is forecast to strengthen the southwest monsoon, thereby causing widespread rain in the Philippines next week.
