On the evening of November 9, Hanoi Police Club lost 0-1 to Hoang Anh Gia Lai at Pleiku Stadium in round 7 of V.League 2024-2025.
Notably, in the 89th minute, the ball touched the hand of a home team player in the penalty area but referee Mai Xuan Hung refused to award a penalty to the Hanoi Police club when he determined that Alan was offside and had participated in the action. The second half was added 12 minutes of extra time but all the efforts of the away team were not rewarded with a goal.
After the match, the head coach of the Hanoi Police team - Mr. Mano Polking said: "I want to say that the referee's extra time was right when they gave the match 12 minutes of extra time. I am disappointed with this result but the whole team played their best. We tried to approach the goal but could not convert the opportunity into a goal. The players missed many opportunities so we accept this defeat."
This coach congratulated Hoang Anh Gia Lai team but he had opinions about the mountain town team's playing style.
"Will this style of play help Vietnamese football develop? I can confirm to everyone that I love Vietnam, I want to come to Vietnam to work and want to contribute a beautiful style of play, not to trade everything to win.
I don't understand what the opponents' goals are, but with such negative play, where will Vietnamese football go? A match where players lie on the ground for 20-25 minutes. For me, I will never accept allowing my players to do that. For that amount of time you lie on the ground, you should ask yourself what you are doing to the match.
Once again, I congratulate Hoang Anh Gia Lai for getting 3 points. But I feel ashamed that the other team won in this way. I am really sorry for saying this. The referee did his best, they added extra time during the dead time of the match. With this style of play, we cannot take Vietnamese football far," coach Mano Polking said indignantly.
After the match, goalkeeper Filip Nguyen also posted a picture of the Hanoi Police team with a short status: "Congratulations on Hoang Anh Gia Lai's victory in the first 25 minutes - the time when they actually played football...".
With this victory, Hoang Anh Gia Lai temporarily rose to the top of the rankings with 12 points, while Hanoi Police ranked 4th with 11 points.
