Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club has secured the right to enter the quarter-finals of the 2024-2025 AFC Champions League (Asian Cup C1) Women's tournament after winning all the first two matches in Group C.
In both of these victories, striker Huynh Nhu contributed 3 goals. In addition, 3 American foreign players of HCMC, midfielder Tatiana Mason, center back Talani Barnet and striker Root Medhan Callahan also left an impression with high-quality performances.
After the group stage ends, the quarter-finals of the 2024-2025 AFC Champions League Women's Championship will not take place until early 2025. However, the contracts between Huynh Nhu and the 3 foreign players will only last until the end of 2024.
Sharing at the press conference before the final match of the group stage taking place at noon on October 11, coach Nguyen Hong Pham said that Ho Chi Minh City club hopes to keep Huynh Nhu and 3 foreign players in the future.
"Currently, the team's policy is still to try to keep 3 foreign players, Huynh Nhu, and also look for new players. From now until the quarter-final match takes place, there is still time to calculate and rearrange," coach Nguyen Hong Pham shared.
The performance of the 3 American players and HCMC has received many positive responses. However, it is regrettable that none of these 3 players have scored yet. Therefore, HCMC players also hope that the foreign players will score in the final match of the 2024 AFC Champions League Women's Group Stage to contribute to bringing good results to the team.
"Recently, the 3 foreign players have integrated well. In the last two matches, the 3 players have greatly contributed to the achievements of Ho Chi Minh City. Every player on the field is eager to score. They were unlucky, all 3 of them have not scored. Hopefully in the last match, the 3 players will try harder and have more luck to contribute to the Ho Chi Minh City women's club", player Nguyen Thi Tuyet Ngan shared.
HCMC Women's Club's opponent in the final round of the group stage will be Urawa Red Diamonds (Japan). Although they have secured their place in the next round, coach Nguyen Hong Pham said that HCMC will still field their strongest squad in this match.
He said: "To prepare for tomorrow's match (October 12), the coaching staff has planned to use the best force, choosing players in high form to compete so that the match has the best professional quality.
I don't think that in the last 2 matches, HCMC has met opponents of equal or lower level. All teams tried their best. We were lucky and took advantage of our opportunities better, so we won. Tomorrow will be a dedicated match, if the weather is favorable, the match will be good and dedicated."
The match between Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club and Urawa Red Diamonds in the final round of Group C of the 2024-2025 Asian Women's Cup will take place at 7:00 p.m. tomorrow (October 12). Before that, also at Thong Nhat Stadium, there will be a match between Taichung Blue Whale and Odisha at 3:00 p.m.
