Heartbreaking accidents
On May 7, in Bau Can commune, Mr. Ro Mah J. (born 1992, residing in Ia Dom commune, Gia Lai province), a worker of Chanh Tay Gia Lai Joint Stock Company, died while working at a rubber latex processing factory.
According to initial information, during the process of putting rubber latex into the grinder, Mr. J. was unfortunately caught in the device. Camera images at the scene showed that the accident happened unexpectedly, causing the victim to not have time to react. After the incident, the business reported it to functional agencies, and local authorities came to visit and encourage the victim's family.
Just a week later, on May 14, another serious labor accident occurred at the construction material gathering yard of Phuc Thanh Long One Member Limited Company, on Nguyen Chi Thanh street, An Phu ward.
The victim is Mr. N.D. H. (born 1978, residing in hamlet 4, An Phu ward), a driver of a crane truck carrying construction materials. While waiting to load and unload goods, Mr. H got out to repair the car when the cabin was empty. Suddenly, the car drifted freely down the slope, dragging the victim under the chassis, causing his death.
Warnings from unsafe working environments
At a recent legal propaganda session at Tra Da Industrial Park, representatives of Pleiku Ward Police (Gia Lai) assessed that the consecutive accidents show many potential risks in the working environment, especially at processing plants, construction sites and areas with machinery and motorized vehicles operating.
The causes of labor accidents often stem from workers being subjective, lacking protective equipment, and operating incorrectly according to procedures.
In addition, business owners need to fully implement safety inspection and supervision measures.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Xuan - Chairwoman of Pleiku Ward Trade Union - requested business owners in the area and industrial parks with large scale of workers to pay attention to accident prevention, and businesses need to strengthen safety skills training for workers.
Business owners must also review and periodically maintain machinery and equipment; install warning and shielding systems in dangerous locations and develop emergency response procedures when incidents occur.
On the worker's side, it is necessary to absolutely comply with the operating procedures of machinery, use full protective equipment, not be subjective in the working process and promptly report when unsafe risks are detected. Because labor accidents not only cause damage to people and property but also leave long-term pain for the victim's family.
