Businesses "thirsty" for highly skilled labor
According to statistics from the Hai Phong City Labor Federation, businesses in industrial parks are in need of recruiting more than 36,000 workers, focusing on electronics, electrical equipment, high technology, mechanical engineering, metal processing, automobiles, motorbikes and transportation. These are fields with high labor demand but also set high requirements for discipline, skills, professional qualifications and ability to adapt to technology.
Along with surveying labor recruitment needs, the Clubs of Chairmen and Vice Chairmen of grassroots Trade Unions in industrial parks in Hai Phong also summarize the training and fostering needs of employees and trade union officials to propose appropriate support programs. As a result, 71.3% of units in the Eastern region identified at least one training and fostering need. In which, foreign languages serving work accounted for 40.8%; improving professional qualifications and skills 34.7%; improving skills 27.1%; digital skills and technology application 24.8%...
In the western region, 68.1% of units identified a need for training and fostering. Of which, foreign languages serving work are 39%; improving professional qualifications and skills is 35.7%; improving skills is 29.6%; operating new machinery, equipment, and technology is 27.2%.
Mr. Nguyen Hong Quang - Deputy Head of the Trade Union Committee of Hai Phong City Labor Federation Industrial Park said that the above figures show that the need to improve the quality of human resources is becoming urgent. Workers not only need to be skilled in their profession but also have foreign languages, digital skills, and the ability to operate new technologies...
Encouraging workers to master technology
To solve the human resource problem, many businesses in the area have coordinated with trade unions to implement training programs, improve skills, and encourage workers to research, create and improve production processes.
At LG Electronics Hai Phong Co., Ltd., the grassroots trade union coordinated to implement a solution to "popularize" quality management methods and high-tech skills. The unit has organized 1,139 courses with more than 40,590 turns of employees participating, thereby improving the capacity of technicians, especially in the field of system programming.
Notably, the "Technology Autonomy" movement was launched by the company's trade union, encouraging employees to design and manufacture machinery themselves instead of proposing procurement from outside contractors.
According to the Hai Phong City Labor Federation, the city currently manages more than 3,000 grassroots trade unions with a total of nearly 650,000 union members. The young workforce, mostly in the age group of 18-35, is dynamic and capable of adapting to the industrial production environment. However, the proportion of unskilled workers without formal training is still large. Therefore, in the period 2025 - 2030, the City Labor Federation determines that improving the quality of vocational training, digital skills and soft skills for workers is a key task.
