Bringing thousands of workers home for Tet
To take care of union members, workers, civil servants, and laborers on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025, the Da Nang City Labor Federation organized the program "Tet Sum Vay - Xuan Ung Dang" with many activities. In 2025, Da Nang organized 89 Union Buses to take union members and laborers home to celebrate Tet.
With the southern route to Khanh Hoa province, the northern route to Thanh Hoa province and the Central Highlands route to Dak Lak province, the Trade Union Bus program will bring more than 3,500 union members and disadvantaged workers home to celebrate Tet with their families and relatives. Each union member and worker participating in the bus will be supported with a meal worth 100,000 VND/person.
Mr. Le Van Dai, Vice President of the Da Nang City Labor Federation, said: “The Union Bus has been organized for the past 10 years. This year, to provide more means of transportation for workers, children, pregnant women, the elderly, and the sick to travel conveniently, we have implemented the Union Train program with 555 train tickets. In addition, we also provide financial support so that workers can travel by suitable means.”
In 2025, the Da Nang City Labor Federation also organized the Union Train program to bring 555 union members and disadvantaged workers back to their hometowns to celebrate Tet and enjoy Spring with their families. At the program, the leaders of the City Labor Federation presented lucky money envelopes and green banh chung to union members and disadvantaged workers. The Union Train has 28 trips, departing from Da Nang station with the farthest route in the North to Hanoi, and in the South to Ho Chi Minh City from January 24 to 28.
Returning home after 8 years of working
Ms. Trinh Thi Vu, a worker at Hoa Khanh Industrial Park (Da Nang City) is one of thousands of workers from faraway provinces who have left their hometowns to make a living. Ms. Vu went from Hanoi to Da Nang 15 years ago to work as a worker and the last time she returned home that she remembers was 8 years ago. So for 8 Tet holidays, the worker has not been able to be with her family during the first days of the year, and has not been able to enjoy the familiar flavors of each dish in her hometown. Therefore, this year, Ms. Vu and her three children were supported by the Da Nang City Labor Federation with train tickets to Hanoi from December 25. In the waiting room at the train station, Ms. Vu kept looking anxiously at the railway tracks.
“The whole week, the kids (Vu’s children) kept asking when we would be going home, Mom? Then the three of us kept packing our clothes, waiting for the day we could board the train back home,” Vu choked up.
For the past 4 years, Ms. Tran Thi Nguyet, a worker at Hoa Khanh Industrial Park, has been on the list of union members and workers receiving Union bus tickets to return home for Tet. But every time she takes the bus, Ms. Nguyet is moved because thanks to this bus, her family of 4 has saved more than 1.2 million VND during Tet. Therefore, at 6am this morning (January 25), Ms. Nguyet, her husband and children were present at the gathering point to get on the bus to return home.
“With this savings, my husband and I can rest assured to prepare for Tet and be ready to return to Da Nang with my husband and children to study and work after Tet,” Ms. Nguyet shared.
More than ever, the Union Bus and Union Train are the timely care and encouragement of the Unions at all levels so that union members and workers far from home can reunite with their families in many hometowns across the provinces and cities of the country.
