Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Former Operations Director Sheryl Sandberg will audition in a lawsuit demanding Facebook illegally share user data with research firm Cambridge Analytica.
Mark Zuckerberg will have to answer questions within a maximum of 6 hours, Sheryl Sandberg will answer the hearing within 5 hours. Javier Olivan, who will take over as CEO of Sandberg, will face a 3-hour questioning session.
The incident occurred in 2016. Cambridge Analytica - a British policy consulting firm - has used Facebook user data to target and influence potential voters in Donald's favor before the Donald Trump presidential election.
The number of people whose data was collected reached more than 87 million, and most of this information is believed to be used for political purposes.
In 2018, the scandal was exposed and Facebook was accused of illegally sharing user data with Cambridge Analytica. If they lose the lawsuit, Meta could be fined hundreds of millions of dollars.
At that time, Facebook faced many class actions related to the scandal. Mark Zuckerberg also had to answer hundreds of questions before the US Congress in two hearings.
Facebook has argued that it has clearly stated its practices in user agreements. The content affirms that anyone who shares their information on social media should not consider maintaining privacy.
