Netflix promotes functionality as global audiences change their way of watching movies

Netflix expanded its access support tools as more viewers used subtitles, voice acting, and audio descriptions to enjoy international content.

Netflix said that access support features are becoming an important part of the movie viewing experience of millions of users worldwide.

This change takes place in the context of increasingly popular international content and audiences tending to watch movies in many different languages.

Netflix has now announced a series of new updates to improve content access for users, especially those with hearing impairments, hearing impairments or visual impairments.

According to the company, currently nearly 1/3 of global members are using access support tools such as subtitles, subtitles for deaf and mute people (SDH/CC), voice acting or audio descriptions when watching online movies.

Netflix said this trend is linked to the strong increase in international content on the platform. If 10 years ago, non-English programs accounted for less than 10% of total viewing time, now this number has exceeded more than 1/3 of the total global viewing hours.

In 2025 alone, about 70% of views came from users watching movies and programs produced outside their countries. This shows that audiences are becoming more open to multilingual content.

Many famous movies on Netflix achieve large views thanks to access support tools. For example, Squid Game and Adolescence are among the most viewed content when subtitles are turned on.

Meanwhile, Wednesday and When Life Gives You Tangerines attracted large audiences using voiceover and audio description.

To serve global viewers, Netflix currently provides subtitles, sound descriptions and voice acting in more than 30 different languages.

The company also deployed the "Search by language" feature, allowing users to search for content based on their favorite language and add-on options right on the search bar.

This feature works on all devices and is expected to help users easily access more suitable movies, especially for people with disabilities or audiences who regularly watch foreign content.

Netflix also said that the number of audio descriptions is increasing rapidly. By 2025, the platform had added more than 13,000 hours of audio descriptions to its content library, an increase of about 30% compared to the previous year.

Sound description is a feature that supports the blind or visually impaired by adding voice narration to explain scenes, actions, or expressions on the screen.

According to Netflix, this is one of the tools that makes entertainment content more accessible to all user groups globally.
