OpenAI expands cooperation, Amazon and Google Cloud benefit greatly

OpenAI expands cooperation, allows Amazon and Google Cloud cooperation, expands business opportunities and increases flexibility in AI development.

OpenAI has just made an important adjustment in its partnership with Microsoft, opening up the possibility of working with competitors in the cloud computing field such as Amazon and Google.

This move is seen as a strategic shift, helping AI companies increase flexibility in the context of increasingly fierce competition.

According to the amended agreement, Microsoft still retains its role as OpenAI's main cloud computing partner. However, the company run by Sam Altman can now provide products and services on many different platforms, instead of being limited as before.

The relaxation of the exclusive clause that once allowed Microsoft to be the sole distributor of the OpenAI model has opened up great opportunities in reaching corporate customers.

OpenAI said it will continue to license technology to Microsoft until 2032, while the revenue sharing mechanism between the two sides will be maintained until 2030.

In return, Microsoft is still guaranteed priority access to the storage infrastructure of OpenAI's AI models, and receives about 20% of revenue during the negotiated period.

Microsoft's investment of about 13 billion USD from 2019 is considered to be the foundation to help OpenAI rise to lead the AI market.

However, previous constraints also revealed limitations. According to some internal documents, OpenAI believes that dependence on a single cloud platform has hampered growth, especially in the business segment.

Service demand increased sharply as the company began providing products on Amazon's AWS platform.

With the new agreement, customers using Amazon Web Services or Google Cloud can easily access OpenAI tools without encountering barriers.

This means that OpenAI can compete more directly with competitors such as Anthropic, which is also expanding multi-platform cooperation.

However, the relationship between OpenAI and Microsoft is still very close. OpenAI is expected to spend at least 250 billion USD on Azure cloud services by 2032, showing that Microsoft is still an important infrastructure pillar.

In the opposite direction, Microsoft is also diversifying its AI strategy. This group develops its own models and integrates solutions from rivals such as Anthropic into the product ecosystem, including the 365 Copilot toolkit.

Not only stopping there, OpenAI also expanded cooperation with many other technology partners such as Oracle, Alphabet, Nvidia and Luxshare. This shows that the company's long-term strategy is to build an open ecosystem, instead of relying on a single partner.

The removal of clauses related to general artificial intelligence (AGI) also contributes to reducing legal risks and creating transparency in cooperation.

In the context of the increasingly hot global AI race, OpenAI's "untie-down" move not only helps the company expand its market, but also reshapes the balance of power between technology giants in the cloud computing field.
