It is known that the National Data Protection Agency (ANPD) and the Brazilian Ministry of Justice have announced that they will investigate the TikTok platform to clarify whether TikTok has access to data of minors.
The ANPD's announcement stated that this decision was based on network "monitoring" activities and TikTok had "signs of violating" national laws on the protection of personal information in accessing the Internet.
The country has stressed that issues related to children and adolescents are very important and Brazil has specific regulations. Accordingly, the privacy of personal data must be fully protected, especially for minors.
Based on these suspicions, ANDP opened an administrative filing to investigate TikTok and gave the platform 10 days to disable resources that allow access to content without prior registration or age verification.
ANDP also called on TikTok to have a limited plan to create fake records, preventing children and adolescents from opening accounts without parent or guardian permission during the registration process.
TikTok is one of the most used social networks in Brazil, with about 82 million users over the age of 18. However, it is not possible to accurately count the number of children and adolescents accessing the platform.
