According to Techcrunch, this is the team of experts who created Dark Sky, a famous weather forecasting application sold to Apple in March 2020. Unlike conventional weather applications, Acme Weather's forecasts are supplemented with a series of alternative predictions to achieve higher accuracy.
Adam Grossman - co-founder of Dark Sky - said that the new weather forecasting application will take advantage of various digital weather forecasting models, satellite data, ground observations and radar data, making its forecast quite reliable.
However, the application will also have more prediction lines displaying other possible results in the form of gray lines on the chart.
“The thing that makes us most uncomfortable with many weather apps is that you only get their best predictions and you don't know their accuracy,” Grossman shared. According to him, understanding forecast options helps people plan for the next actions.
It is expected that Acme Weather is a consumer application priced at $25 per year, with a two-week free trial. This helps offset the costs associated with collecting various weather models and data sources, which can be quite expensive.
When launched, the application provided many types of maps, such as radar maps, lightning maps, rainfall and snowfall, as well as wind, temperature, humidity, cloud cover and storm path maps.
Another feature of Acme Weather is Community Reporting, which allows users to share information about their current conditions to improve the application's real-time weather reporting capabilities.
While Dark Sky has become a popular weather app thanks to its ability to accurately predict the start of rain at the user's location, Acme Weather aims to improve this and even bring more joy.
This application integrates notifications for daily tasks, such as rain, nearby thunder, community reports, harsh weather warnings from local authorities...
The application will also test warnings such as rainbow predictions or determine the most beautiful sunset viewing time.
These results will be in a special section called "Acme Labs" on the application, and Grossman said they will make cautious predictions, due to the difficulty of prediction.
Users can also customize their notifications to focus on weather events they are interested in, such as wind or UV index, or the possibility of rain in the next 24 hours.
The Acme Weather application is currently available on iOS. The Android version is being planned.
