The elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses is not only about eliminating temporary old houses, but also laying the foundation for solid shelters, helping the poor settle down.

Realizing the dream of settling down from humanitarian policies

For many poor households with especially difficult circumstances, especially poor ethnic minority households, having a solid, sturdy house is a distant dream when life is still full of difficulties and shortages.

Understanding that, for many years now, housing support policies have been vigorously implemented by the Government and localities, most recently the emulation movement "The whole country joins hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses" nationwide launched by the Prime Minister. From this program, the dream of "settling down" for many poor households has been realized across the country.

The elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses is not simply about eliminating temporary old and dilapidated houses, but also placing the "foundation" to build solid shelters, where the poor can settle down, stabilize their lives, work with peace of mind, produce, and escape poverty sustainably.

Through review, the whole Bac Lieu province needs to build 2,537 houses to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, with a total cost of over 146 billion VND. Therefore, as soon as the Ministry of Public Security had a policy to accompany Bac Lieu province to support the construction of 700 houses for poor and near-poor households in the province, the Provincial Police proactively coordinated with the Office of the Ministry of Public Security, the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, the Provincial People's Committee Office, and the Department of Construction to agree on solutions for implementation.

With high determination, drastic action, completing each task, clearly assigning people, work, time, responsibility, and results. By the end of April 30, 2025, Bac Lieu province had built and completed 700 houses for poor and near-poor households from the support of the Ministry of Public Security.

Joy from warm homes

In Ca Vinh hamlet, Hung Hoi commune, Vinh Loi district, Bac Lieu province, the house with the new paint scent of Mrs. Son Sa Qui is a vivid testament to the effectiveness of the program.

This year, nearly 80 years old, Mrs. Qui has lived her whole life in a dilapidated house with leaves, leaking when it rains, and receding when the wind blows, never daring to dream of a spacious roof. However, thanks to the support of authorities at all levels and the Ministry of Public Security, Mrs. Qui's seemingly distant dream has now come true.

Previously, my house was built with makeshift, dilapidated leaves, just enough to cover it from the sun, but every time it rained heavily, the house leaked everywhere. But working is not enough to eat, so there is no money to repair it, so we have to stay temporarily, or go as far as we want. Now, with the support of the Ministry of Public Security to build a spacious house, the family is very happy. I have never thought of having such a beautiful rammed house to live in in. I would like to thank the Party and the State, and thank the Ministry of Public Security for their concern and help to my family! - Ms. Qui emotionally shared.

Also in that joy, Ms. Thach Thi Phool in Vinh Mau Hamlet, Vinh Hau Commune, Hoa Binh District, Bac Lieu Province was moved when she was given a new house to replace the dilapidated thatched roof. The house is a support for her and her two young grandchildren, helping her daughter feel secure in making a living in a far away place.

Mr. Nguyen Van Bi (in Phuoc Hoa Tien hamlet, Phuoc Long town, Phuoc Long district) is a local bricklayer who "does whatever he says" and his income is also unstable. In 2015, a stroke caused his health to decline, making him unable to work hard, and his already difficult life has now become even more difficult.

Mr. Bi's new house is not only a home, but also the beginning of a revival journey when he was supported with an additional 25 million VND to implement the model of growing fish sauce at home.

In a short time, hundreds of solid houses in Bac Lieu have been built and donated to those in difficult circumstances. These are not only houses made of concrete and reinforced concrete but also with trust, sharing and humanity. Each house is a story, a dream comes true, a foundation for people to stabilize their lives, escape poverty, and enjoy the fruits of the cause of national renewal and development.
