At the foot of the Tay Con Linh range, Mr. Ban Van Dang - a Dao ethnic person in Mao Phin village, Thanh Thuy border commune (Tuyen Quang) - boldly developed a sturgeon farming model, bringing stable income. Not only is he a good economist, he is also a role model of overcoming difficulties, contributing to spreading effective practices among ethnic minorities, according to VNA.
Mr. Ban Van Dang said that more than 20 years ago, Mao Phin village was still desolate, people mainly lived on the forest, life was deprived. His family of 4 lived in a temporary house, struggling with food and clothing. From that reality, he always struggled to find a way out of poverty.
Recognizing the advantage of fresh natural water and cool climate, in 2006, he started investing in sturgeon farming, a model that was still new in the highlands at that time. In the early days, due to lack of experience and incomplete technology, the fish grew slowly, even died en masse. The unstable consumption market made him discouraged many times.
However, he did not give up. He actively learned through books and newspapers, consulted other models, and accumulated experience after each farming season. Thanks to persistently "doing while learning", he gradually mastered the technique and stabilized production.

Currently, his family has 6 farming ponds, arranged scientifically, ensuring continuous water circulation. Each farming pond lasts from 2 - 3 years before harvesting. He proactively divides rotation according to each stage so that fish can be sold every year, maintaining a stable source of income.
Thanks to the methodical approach, his family not only escaped poverty but also became a well-off household in the village. Two children, although they have separated families, still regularly support the care of fish ponds. His family has built a spacious stilt house at the foot of the mountain and is learning more about the model of raising civets to diversify sources of income.
Not only developing the family economy, Mr. Dang also actively shares experiences and guides households in the village. Mr. Ban Van Thieu - Head of Mao Phin village - said that Mr. Dang is a pioneer in economic development, always enthusiastically supporting people, helping many households boldly follow suit to increase income.
His model has also received attention from local authorities. In recent years, Thanh Thuy commune has created conditions for policies, technical support and encouraged production expansion.
Chairman of Thanh Thuy Commune People's Committee Le Manh Dung assessed that Mr. Ban Van Dang's sturgeon farming model is a typical example in the locality. Not only bringing economic efficiency, the model also contributes to changing the production mindset of people, especially ethnic minorities.
From a poor household in the border area, with diligence and determination, Mr. Ban Van Dang has risen right on his homeland. The sturgeon farming model at the foot of Tay Con Linh not only helps his family stabilize their lives but also opens up suitable economic development directions for many households in the area.
His story is a clear proof of the Dao people's will to overcome difficulties in Thanh Thuy commune, showing that with determination and appropriate ways of doing things, people in the highlands can completely escape poverty and move towards sustainable development.
