The clean water project worth more than 52 billion VND helps hundreds of households in Quan Ba commune have hygienic water sources, ending prolonged pollution worries.

Having had to use water sources with signs of pollution, many households in Quan Ba commune, Tuyen Quang province are always worried about affecting their health and lives. Putting the clean water supply project into operation has helped people in mountainous areas have hygienic water sources and stabilize their lives, according to VNA.

Previously, 122 households in Na Vin village mainly led water from the upstream to use. Although not treated, the water source still meets living needs.

However, from 2021, when many headwater areas switched from growing corn to growing roses, people began to notice that the water had a strong smell and was difficult to use.

Mr. San Duc Dung - Head of Na Vin village - said that people are concerned that the use of pesticides in flower gardens will cause chemicals to seep into the domestic water source, so they have repeatedly proposed to the government to inspect and handle it.

After receiving feedback, Quan Ba Commune People's Committee directed inspection and took water samples to send to Tuyen Quang Provincial Center for Disease Control for testing. The results showed that the water source did not meet standards in some indicators such as Coliforms, E.Coli, turbidity and permanganate, posing a potential risk to health.

Mr. Do Xuan Phuc - Chairman of Quan Ba Commune People's Committee - said that the locality has accelerated the progress of completing the clean water supply project, and at the same time installed warning signs in areas where water sources are at risk of pollution, advising people not to use them for eating and living.

The domestic water supply project serving people in mountainous areas was approved by the People's Committee of Quan Ba district (old) in 2023 with a total investment of more than 52 billion VND. The project includes a head dam, a water treatment station, a pipeline system, a storage tank and a synchronous operating system.

According to the design, the project meets the clean water needs of about 1,460 households in the rainy season and about 900 households in the dry season.

The project started construction in early 2024. By the end of April 2026, the system had connected and supplied water to all 122 households in Na Vin village and schools in the area. In early May 2026, the project was handed over to the Quan Ba Public Service, Environment and Water Supply and Drainage Center for management and operation.

Mr. Chu Minh Bang - Deputy Director of the Quan Ba Public Service, Environment and Water Supply and Drainage Center said that the unit has inspected the entire system and signed water supply contracts with people. Currently, households in Na Vin and Nam Dam villages have been able to use stable clean water sources.

Ms. Sung Thi Mai, a resident of Na Vin village, shared: "Previously, my family was very worried because we had to use suspected polluted water sources. Now that there is stable clean water, people are very excited, so even though we have to pay water usage fees, households in the village all agree.

According to local authorities, Quan Ba commune continues to review and inspect water sources in the area, and at the same time study more suitable water sources to propose clean water supply projects for people in mountainous areas.
