Dak Lak - Over the past 5 years, poverty reduction work in ethnic minority areas in the locality has seen many improvements.

Positive results

According to the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee, in the period of 2020 - 2025, the province has achieved the target of poverty reduction in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, with an average reduction rate of 4.2%/year.

The family of Mr. Tang Van Thang (Tay ethnic group, residing in Tan Tien village, Dlie Ya commune) is one of the households that escaped poverty in the recent period. This is a great effort of him personally in particular and the local government in general.

Mr. Thang shared: "Thanks to the attention of local authorities, I have been supported to approach and learn goat breeding models. Then, combined with agricultural work, I expanded to livestock farming.

After only 3 years of efforts, the family has reaped sweet fruits. The herd of goats grows well, giving birth to many breeds. From the money from selling breeding goats, I have escaped poverty. In 2025, the family renovated the dilapidated house, with a more spacious and prosperous home."

As for Mr. Y Ban Are (E De ethnic group, Buon Trang, Krong Nang commune), the past 5 years have been a turning point for his family. Before 2020, his family was one of the most disadvantaged households in the area. The couple has been struggling with food all year round but still cannot afford to eat, and their children lack school books.

The local government has supported Mr. Y Ban's family with breeding cows to develop household livestock farming. At the same time, he also attended training courses on animal husbandry and farming organized by the People's Committee of the commune.

From the experience accumulated in life and learning knowledge, Mr. Y Ban built a barn and planted more fruit trees. Thanks to that, the family's income has continuously increased over the years. By 2024, his family had escaped poverty.

"My goal is to escape the near-poor household status by 2025 or 2026. The couple is saving money to repair their house. Hopefully, the family will continue to receive attention from the local government, loans to do business or benefit from national target programs to have a better life," Mr. Y Ban happily said.

Not only caring about the lives of people, provincial authorities at all levels also pay special attention to the work of building new rural areas, upgrading and renovating infrastructure in remote areas.

In the past 5 years, the whole province has 82 villages and hamlets escaping from extremely difficult areas, reaching a rate of 14%, and 52 communes in Area I meeting new rural standards.

To achieve the above results, it is thanks to the great support from the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas (pr program 1719). This is a large program, with wide coverage and diverse beneficiaries.

Continuing sustainable poverty reduction

In the period of 2026 - 2030, Dak Lak province strives to reduce the average poverty rate by 2% or more/year; the poverty rate among ethnic minorities will decrease by an average of 3% or more/year.

In addition, the locality strives to have 68/88 communes meeting new rural standards by 2030. Of which, 16 communes have met advanced new rural standards and 8 communes have met model new rural standards.

Mr. Truong Cong Thai - Vice Chairman of Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee - said: "In recent years, thanks to the effective balance of resources, the province has completed the poverty reduction target for people in ethnic minority areas. The grassroots government is close to the people, close to the people, caring about people's lives and supporting people when needed.

In addition, the appearance of rural areas has gradually improved; roads, schools, and health stations in disadvantaged areas have been upgraded and repaired to serve the people".

According to Mr. Thai, in the coming period, local authorities at all levels will continue to make efforts and effectively implement sustainable poverty reduction work associated with building new rural areas. Thereby, continuing to complete and exceed the set targets to prevent falling back into poverty, helping people in remote areas of the province have a better life.

According to the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions of Dak Lak province, after merging with Phu Yen (not including merging communes), the province has a total of 152 communes in ethnic minority and mountainous areas. Of which, there are 66 communes in area III, 6 communes in area II, and 80 communes in area I.

The locality still has 507 villages and hamlets with special difficulties in ethnic minority and mountainous areas.
