Poverty reduction efforts in Pac Nam

TRÍ MINH |

The national target program on sustainable poverty reduction in Pac Nam district (Bac Kan) has brought positive impacts, contributing to improving people's lives.

In Boc Bo commune, the model of growing mulberry for growing mulberry for selection implemented by Boc Bo mulberry Cooperative has brought a fairly stable income to local people.

Mr. Phung Quoc Than - Bo Bo mulberry Cooperative, Pac Nam District - said that implementing this model, the most important thing is to plant mulberry trees first, ensure the requirements according to the instructions, and then raise mulberry. Each box of seeds costs more than 600,000 VND, after 15 days of raising silkworms, they can be sold for 17 - 18 days, each batch of seeds earns 8 to 10 million VND. He found that economic efficiency is 10 times higher than spending.

According to Mr. Ma Van Long - Director of Bo Bo mulberry and silkworm Cooperative, the output of the product is very stable. mulberry Cooperative has cooperated with Co Ba mulberry Cooperative, located in Co Ba commune, Bao Lac district (Cao Bang), this is also a unit that supplies and purchases finished mulberry seeds.

Silkworm cups are exported to major markets such as Quang Ninh and Hai Phong to process into high-quality lychee fabrics and are used domestically or exported to many countries around the world. Therefore, the quantity of silkworm pupae always has a stable output and price, the demand for finished silkworm pupae is very large.

The model brings certain prospects, not only opening up a new direction for effective economic development for the people but also laying the initial foundation for developing the mulberry and mulberry industry in the locality. From this effective model, many households in Boc Bo commune have had stable income, gradually rising out of poverty.

In Xuan La commune, along with implementing economic development models, to effectively implement poverty reduction work, the investigation of poverty causes and finding solutions for each household has contributed to the implementation of poverty reduction goals in the locality. The review of poor households is conducted scientifically and in detail by the commune according to each criterion.

Mr. Loc Thang Huyen - Vice Chairman of Xuan La Commune People's Committee - said: "The commune has reviewed and found out the causes of poverty in each household. After that, organize a steering committee meeting and assign tasks to each member to focus on directing, mobilizing all local resources together with all levels, and synchronously implementing poverty reduction solutions.

In the period of 2021 - 2025, Pac Nam district was allocated more than 270 billion VND from the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction.

This capital has been used to invest in the construction of 26 traffic, health and education works in particularly disadvantaged communes. In addition, the district has implemented 77 projects to support livelihoods for more than 1,600 poor and near-poor households; organized vocational training for over 500 workers; supported labor export for more than 200 people. In addition, support the construction or repair of 185 houses, helping people stabilize their lives.

To achieve the poverty reduction target, Mr. Trinh Duc Minh - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Pac Nam district - said that in addition to the regular participation of the entire local government committee system, it is necessary to promote the role of the heads of each agency and unit to mobilize people to join hands to strive to implement project programs, especially projects to support production development, vocational training and job creation projects to achieve the goal of sustainable poverty reduction.

Thanks to the effective implementation of poverty reduction programs, the poverty rate of the whole district has decreased from more than 53% in 2021 to 45% by the end of 2024, equivalent to more than 530 households escaping poverty. In 2025, Pac Nam district strives to reduce nearly 400 poor households, bringing the rate down to below 40%.
