In July, on the historic Dien Bien land, incense sticks of gratitude are lit at cemeteries, martyrs' temples and historical relics. Not only to commemorate the heroic martyrs who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, this is also an opportunity for the Party Committee, government and people of ethnic groups in Dien Bien province to continue to promote the morality of "When drinking water, remember the source", taking better care of the lives of people with meritorious services to the revolution, according to the Dien Bien Provincial e-Portal.
Dien Bien currently manages more than 16,000 dossiers of people with meritorious services to the revolution. Every month, the province pays allowances to 963 people with a total budget of over 3.4 billion VND in non-cash payment form, ensuring timeliness, transparency and convenience for beneficiaries.
Along with fully implementing preferential policies, the province focuses on preserving and restoring martyr memorial works. The whole province has 44 martyr memorial works, including 10 martyr cemeteries and 1 youth volunteer cemetery with 7,398 martyr graves.
Every year, many projects are invested in construction and repair from the central and local budgets and the joint efforts of organizations and individuals, contributing to preserving traditional education "red addresses".
In 2026, Dien Bien continues to implement many meaningful gratitude activities. At the end of May, the province organized the reception, memorial service and burial of 16 sets of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who sacrificed in Laos to rest at Tong Khao Martyrs' Cemetery.
At the same time, the province drastically implements the 500-day and night campaign to search, repatriate and identify the remains of martyrs; support the removal of temporary and dilapidated houses for children of resistance activists infected with chemical toxins.
As the resting place of thousands of heroic martyrs, Dien Bien regularly welcomes working delegations, relatives of martyrs and people to offer incense and commemorate. Recently, the working delegation of Bac Ninh province offered incense at the Dien Bien Phu Battlefield Martyrs' Temple and National Martyrs' Cemeteries A1, Tong Khao, Doc Lap and Him Lam, and at the same time donated funds to support the Dien Bien Provincial Gratitude Fund.
On the occasion of the 79th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day, the tradition of gratitude continues to be preserved by practical actions. Each meritorious work is cared for, each grave is preserved, and each policy is implemented in a timely manner, all contributing to spreading the tradition of "Gratitude", expressing gratitude to those who have contributed and sacrificed for the Fatherland.
