Lang Son expects to have less than 3% of poor households by the end of 2025

Lang Son - The poverty rate in the province is expected to be below 3% by the end of 2025.

On December 20, in Lang Son province, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment coordinated with the People's Committee of Lang Son province to organize the event "Joining hands for the poor - Leaving no one behind".

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien said that the program has profound political and social significance, demonstrating the spirit of solidarity and mutual love of the nation, while concretizing the major policies of the Party and State on sustainable poverty reduction.

He highly appreciated the participation of all levels, sectors, localities, the support of the business community, philanthropists and the role of the press in spreading social security policies.

According to the report, the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction for the period 2021-2025 is implemented synchronously from the central to the grassroots levels.

To date, the basic targets have met the set plan. The average rate of poor households according to the multidimensional poverty standard decreased by 1.03% per year; in poor districts it decreased by 6.70%; the rate of poor ethnic minority households decreased by 4.45%.

The whole country has 19 communes with special difficulties in coastal areas, coastal areas and islands to escape poverty and especially difficulties; 3 poor districts are recognized as poverty reduction.

At the same time, the program contributes to investing and completing essential infrastructure.

In the period of 2021-2025, poor districts and communes are particularly facing difficulties in building 2,616 new projects, maintaining and repairing 2,340 projects. More than 10,500 poverty reduction models and projects have been implemented, attracting over 205,000 households to participate, thereby improving livelihoods and increasing access to basic social services.

In Lang Son province, poverty reduction work has been vigorously implemented and achieved many clear results. In the period of 2021-2025, the locality will complete the construction and repair of 1,367 houses for poor and near-poor households in poor districts; invest in upgrading many traffic works, irrigation works, electricity, medical stations and educational facilities.

The province also supported the implementation of 249 poverty reduction models and 164 production development projects, helping more than 8,400 households improve their income.

In addition, social security policies have been fully and promptly implemented, such as granting 100% health insurance cards to the poor and ethnic minorities, supporting electricity bills, and fighting hunger in the immediate future.

Thanks to that, in the period of 2021-2024, the average poverty rate of the whole province decreased by 2.95%, the multidimensional poverty rate decreased by 4.3%. It is expected that by the end of 2025, the poverty rate of Lang Son will be below 3%.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Thanh Nhan suggested that central ministries and branches continue to improve mechanisms and policies for poverty reduction in a flexible manner, in line with the characteristics of mountainous and border provinces; prioritize the allocation of resources for essential infrastructure investment, support for livelihoods, housing, vocational training associated with sustainable employment.

Within the framework of the event, the organizing committee honored 20 typical examples of poor people overcoming difficulties; presented 70 bicycles to poor and studious students; and expressed gratitude to businesses, organizations and individuals accompanying the poverty reduction program for the period 2021-2025.
