Gia Lai - Reputable people selected not only understand customs and culture but also contribute to poverty reduction in the area.

On March 6, the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions of Gia Lai province is contributing opinions to the draft Decree on criteria for selecting and recognizing prestigious people and policies for prestigious people among ethnic minorities.

In which, some criteria for selecting reputable people proposed include: Being a Vietnamese citizen, regardless of ethnicity, legally residing in the locality; prioritizing ethnic minorities; themselves and their families be exemplary in complying with the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws.

At the same time, people with prestige are typical people, with many merits and contributions in patriotic emulation movements, hunger eradication and poverty reduction, security and order protection, preservation of cultural identity and national unity.

People with prestige who understand traditional culture, customs, and habits of the nation; have close connections and influence in the lineage, ethnicity, and community; have the ability to gather ethnic minorities, and are trusted, believed, listened to, and followed by people in the community.

In recent years, village elders, village chiefs, and prestigious people in Gia Lai have contributed a lot to the socio-economic development of the locality; maintaining good security and order movements as well as preserving cultural identity through the Central Highlands gong, xoang dance, brocade weaving...

Not only taking care of livelihoods, reputable people also pay special attention to educating teenagers, regularly meeting and reminding them to stay away from social evils, study diligently, and be attached to production labor.

In Ia Phi commune, Gia Lai province, village elder Ro Cham Nha said: "Young people must know how to keep the fields, keep the fields, and know how to do business so that the village can become better".
