Recently, projects supporting cattle and buffalo farming linked to the value chain under the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development of Ethnic Minority Areas have been implemented synchronously in Yen Son District. Through the project, poor and near-poor households of ethnic minorities have received maximum support, improving their quality of life.
After receiving the breed, households will be trained in semi-intensive farming techniques, processing techniques, preserving agricultural waste for food, and disease prevention. The project also supports a portion of feed and veterinary medicine to prevent disease in livestock.
As one of two localities selected to implement the project, Hung Loi commune supported 70 breeding female buffaloes for 70 poor and near-poor households who are ethnic minorities.
Ms. Vuong Hoa (Hung Loi commune, Yen Son district) said that her family has just received a breeding female buffalo for 1 month. This will be a hope and a condition to escape poverty in the coming years.
"It was really fun to receive the project's buffalo support. My family is poor and in very difficult circumstances. When we received the buffalo, we built a barn and covered it carefully, and prepared straw as food to proactively avoid the cold.
Currently, the family's female buffalo is growing well and is being cared for according to the correct procedures and techniques. This is thanks to the dedicated guidance of the staff. Hopefully, this livelihood will help the family escape poverty and improve their lives," Ms. Hoa confided.
Mr. Ban Van Than - Chairman of Hung Loi Commune People's Committee affirmed that to effectively implement the project, the evaluation of poor and near-poor households who are ethnic minorities must be conducted publicly. The criteria is to select households with laborers and grazing land to develop livestock farming.
"Families will proactively choose the breed. With this form of investment, the project's resources are guaranteed to be used for the right purpose.
Currently, the supported buffaloes have been received by households and cared for according to the correct procedures and techniques. This is a new direction, affirming innovation in economic development, helping people gradually improve their lives, and soon escape poverty sustainably," emphasized the Chairman of the People's Committee of Hung Loi commune.
According to Mr. Dinh Van Bac - Director of Yen Son District Agricultural Service Center, the Center has implemented a project to support the breeding of 80 female buffaloes for Hung Loi and Trung Minh communes. A project to raise 42 female cows for Cong Da, Kien Thiet, Dao Vien and Trung Truc communes.
This is a support program under Project 3, for 122 households in the communes, each household is supported with 1 breeding animal, with a total value of over 8 billion VND. This is a project from the capital source of the National Target Program for Economic Development of Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas in the district.
The projects of breeding cattle and buffaloes in Yen Son district have contributed to helping poor and near-poor households develop their household economy. This is the core in implementing sustainable poverty reduction for households, and is a socio-economic development solution suitable to local conditions.
