In the fields of Phuoc Loc Dong village, Son Tinh commune (Quang Ngai), the atmosphere of winter-spring rice harvest is taking place urgently. Farmers are excited when the yield is high, the product consumption is favorable, bringing clear efficiency from the clean rice production model according to the linked chain, according to VNA.
This winter-spring crop, more than 10 members of the Son Tinh commune professional farmers' association participated in producing 4ha of organic rice. The household with the most 8 sao (500 m2/sao), the household with the least 4 sao. The model has been maintained for about 2 years.
Mr. Truong Quang Tri (67 years old) said that initially, people only produced clean rice to serve their families. After training courses by the Department of Science and Technology of Quang Ngai province, people linked up into associations, expanded their scale and strictly followed organic farming procedures.
Accordingly, farmers do not use chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Before the new crop, the field is treated with 20 kg of lime/sao to remove alum and kill golden snails. When sowing, farmers keep a distance of 30cm from the edge of the field to limit pests and diseases, especially effective in the summer-autumn crop. This method helps the field to be ventilated, rice plants develop well, and the ears are large and long.
During the care process, after 8-10 days of sowing, farmers use diluted oil cakes to spray as organic fertilizer. Around 20 days, add urea, from 35-40 days, spray a mixture of lime, milk and chicken eggs, repeated when the rice is spawned. Thanks to the synchronous application of techniques, rice plants increase disease resistance and improve yield.
The spirit of cooperation is an important factor. Members regularly monitor, contribute ideas, and adjust techniques in a timely manner, helping to maintain production efficiency.
After-harvest rice samples are tested by the Center for Application and Service of Science and Technology (Department of Science and Technology of Quang Ngai province), meeting quality standards, ensuring safety for consumers.
According to farmer Tran Hoa, the model helps save about 60% of costs compared to traditional methods. Yield reaches about 4 quintals of dry rice/sao, higher than before. Rice is consumed at a price of 11,000 - 12,000 VND/kg, nearly double that of ordinary rice (6,000 - 7,000 VND/kg). Finished rice is sold for about 25,000 VND/kg. After deducting costs, farmers make a profit of more than 2 million VND/sao/crop. Products are not only consumed in the province but also present in Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, and Dak Nong.
Mr. Ta Van Viet - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Son Tinh commune - assessed that the model brings clear economic efficiency, contributing to changing farming habits towards science, reducing environmental impact. This is a premise for replication, towards green and sustainable agriculture.
