Heavy rain from July 16 to 17 caused flash floods and landslides in many localities of Son La province, causing 151 houses to be affected, hundreds of hectares of crops damaged, traffic infrastructure, electricity, and irrigation damaged. Total damage is estimated at about 125.07 billion VND, according to Son La Provincial e-Portal.
According to reports as of 7 pm on July 19, heavy rain and floods affected Ngoc Chien, Muong La, Muong Chien, Chieng Lao, Chieng Hoa, Muong John and Muong Khieng communes. There were 11 houses completely collapsed, 40 houses had to be urgently relocated, 2 houses were flooded, 36 houses were evacuated due to landslide risks and 62 houses are still being monitored.
Natural disasters damaged 186,574ha of rice, 8.74ha of corn, cassava, 0.4ha of industrial crops, 2,845ha of aquaculture ponds; 1.5 tons of farmed fish, 600kg of lost fish and 7 cattle were swept away by floods. Traffic was also seriously affected with dozens of landslides on national highways and provincial roads. To date, all 64 congested locations have been temporarily cleared.
Floods also damaged 12 canals, 1 domestic water supply project, 2 transformer stations, 2 35kV power poles, causing 3,222 customers to lose power; 2 schools were affected. Separately, the two Nam Khot and Yen Bai hydropower projects are estimated to have damaged about 78 billion VND.
Immediately after the natural disaster, the Son La Provincial Civil Defense Command directed the implementation of response measures according to the "4 on-site" motto, organized the evacuation of people, and maintained 24/24 hour duty. Traffic and electricity units are mobilizing manpower and vehicles to overcome landslides, restore power supply, and soon stabilize people's lives and production.
