Proactively apply AI
Through records, to date, most medical facilities in Can Tho have mastered the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in medical examination and treatment for people. This is an important task in digital transformation, towards smart healthcare.
Talking to reporters, Dr. Truong Ty - Director of Cai Rang Regional Medical Center said that in the past, the testing and diagnosis process was often lengthy, causing many women to hesitate. With AI, the analysis time is significantly shortened, the results are more accurate and subjective errors are minimized.

To date, the team of doctors and nurses has been able to operate independently, making AI a powerful support tool in cervical cancer screening. We expect to expand the application of AI to diagnostic imaging, electronic medical record management and remote treatment support" - Mr. Ty said.
At Can Tho City Oncology Hospital, Master Doctor Huynh Minh Thien, Head of Planning Department, said that patients with dangerous diseases often have difficulty applying technology solutions. After a period of time the unit encouraged registration for medical examination and treatment through the online system or at smart kiosks under the guidance of the social work department, there has been a positive change, optimizing time for patients.

It is known that the goal of the health sector in 2026 is to deploy the "Can Tho Healthcare" Application at 100% of medical facilities in the expanded area, integrating many utilities such as booking appointments for examination, vaccination, buying medicine, remote medical examination and treatment and cashless payment.
Developing specialized healthcare
According to the vision to 2045, Can Tho City will become a specialized medical center of the Mekong Delta region. Thus, the period 2026 - 2030 is identified as a key period for restructuring and improving the quality of the health system.

On that basis, in 2026, the Can Tho City health sector will continue to invest in developing specialized hospitals in a specialized direction. The focus is to restart the project to build Can Tho City Oncology Hospital with a scale of 500 beds (Nguyen Van Cu street). It is known that the Can Tho Department of Health expects this project to be restarted on March 2nd.

With the investment and commissioning of a modern radiation therapy system, the hospital is currently urgently installing machines and is expected to organize the opening ceremony of the first radiation therapy machine system in March 2026.
Mr. Nguyen Huy Sang (of MEGA Medical Equipment Company, representative of VARIAN MEDICAL SYSTEMS) said that with this system, Can Tho City Oncology Hospital can provide radiation therapy for about 200 cases/day, instead of 70 cases/day like the regular Cobalt radiation therapy machine. This is also the first modern generation of machines in the public health system.

In addition, the Heart Hospital also continues to deploy nerve blood vessel intervention techniques, peripheral blood vessels and congenital heart intervention, gradually expanding the list of high-tech techniques right in the locality. Can Tho City General Hospital strives to perform the first kidney transplant in March 2026.
