Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Vu Thu Ha has signed and issued Plan No. 181/KH-UBND on organizing the Hanoi Open Theater Festival in 2026.
According to the plan, the Festival is not only an art performance playground but also aims to honor and spread typical cultural and artistic values of the thousand-year-old Capital; and at the same time contribute to educating the young generation about the tradition of patriotism, glorious revolution, affirming the bravery, intelligence and contributions of the Party Committee, government and people of Hanoi in the process of fighting, building and developing the country, worthy of the titles of Heroic City, City for Peace.
The festival takes the value system "Culture - Identity - Creativity - Integration - Connection" as a consistent orientation, considering this as an endogenetic resource and an important soft power in the development of the Capital's culture in the new period.
It is expected that the Festival will take place from September 3, 2026 to September 13, 2026 at locations including: Cong Nhan Theater, Dai Nam Theater, Hong Ha Theater, Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Cultural Palace, Ho Guom Theater and some theaters in Hanoi City.
The event is a forum to introduce outstanding achievements of stage art from central professional art units, Hanoi, armed forces and localities across the country; at the same time, it is a practical activity to celebrate the 72nd anniversary of the Capital Liberation Day, honoring the journey of construction, renovation and development of Hanoi in more than seven decades.
The festival also creates opportunities for professional stage art units of Hanoi and the whole country to exchange and exchange creative artistic experiences. Participants are professional state and non-state stage art units nationwide, and university training institutions in the field of stage performance art. Each unit is allowed to participate in 1 work that has never participated in festivals and performances organized by ministries, departments, and sectors; the works will be selected by the Appraisal Council before participation.
The festival will introduce to the public typical works of high artistic quality, representing many types such as Cheo, Cai Luong, Drama, Musical, Circus, Puppetry, Tuong... reflecting the depth of Hanoi's culture, history, people and identity.
The Organizing Committee will award prizes including Gold Medals, Silver Medals and excellent prizes for plays, actors and creative components.
