During a winter afternoon stroll, People's Artist Lan Huong "Bong" and her husband, Meritorious Artist Do Ky, stopped at a familiar snack shop. The "like-minded" couple understood that each other wanted a light afternoon snack that was still suitable for the chilly weather.
The two artists stopped in front of the banh troi tau shop of the late Meritorious Artist Pham Bang on Hang Giay Street. People's Artist Lan Huong did not hesitate to reveal to another customer at the shop that this was her "favorite shop".
While enjoying the banh troi tau, the couple recalled old memories of the late artist Pham Bang and his wife. The couple also continuously praised this dish: "The fragrant smell of ginger", "Holding a bowl of hot banh troi like this in the cold winter is great, isn't it?", "It has its own flavor"...
For many years, the banh troi tau shop of the late artist Pham Bang's family only sold three main dishes: banh troi tau, luc tao xa and chi ma phu. Banh troi tau is made from sticky rice, luc tao xa is made from mung beans, and chi ma phu is made from black sesame. All three dishes cost the same 25,000 VND/bowl.
This small sweet soup shop has existed in Hang Giay alley for more than 30 years. However, after the late artist Pham Bang passed away, the shop temporarily stopped selling for about 6 years. Because of his father's wish to maintain the family's traditional banh troi tau shop, Pham Thanh Tung - the artist's son, reopened the shop on November 28, 2017.
Currently, the restaurant still "retains" many regular customers because the family recipe has not changed. This place is the "favorite" address of many famous artists. Opening hours are from 3:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. However, because the restaurant's dishes are suitable for cold weather, the restaurant usually closes from March and will reopen in October in the fall.
