As of this morning, July 16, the low pressure bearing the symbol Invest 90W is operating in the Western Pacific region. The strongest wind near the center of the low pressure reaches 30 km/h. The low pressure is forecast to have little chance of strengthening into a tropical depression or storm in the next 24 hours.
The second low pressure, coded Invest 91W in the Western Pacific region, is classified as a tropical depression by JTWC. The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression reaches 45-50 km/h. This tropical depression is unlikely to strengthen into a storm in the next 24 hours.
In the central Pacific region, 2 low pressure areas with symbols Invest 90C and Invest 91C create widespread thunderstorms and rain near the Hawaiian archipelago and Johnston Islands. Low pressure Invest 90C has a 50% chance of developing into a tropical depression or storm in the next 7 days, while low pressure Invest 91C has a 10% chance.
In the East Pacific, Typhoon Elida is showing signs of slow strengthening with maximum sustained winds of about 85 km/h.
In the next 1-2 days, storm Elida is forecast to move mainly in the West to Northwest direction, then gradually move to the Northwest. In the next 36-48 hours, Elida may strengthen faster and reach the level of a severe tropical storm. The strongest wind speed may reach 150 km/h before the storm degrades.
