It is forecast that a tropical depression in the East Sea will make landfall on Hainan Island (China) today, August 8.

According to storm news, the latest low pressure from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, a tropical depression in the East Sea is about to make landfall.

As of the morning of August 8, the center of the low pressure was located at about 9.7 degrees North latitude - 108.8 degrees East longitude, over the sea area east of the Gulf of Tonkin. The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression reached level 6 (39–49km/h), gusting to level 8. The low pressure is moving slowly in the East-Southeast direction at a speed of 5–10km/h.

It is forecasted that by 7:00 PM today, the tropical depression has made landfall on Hainan Island (China). The center of the tropical depression is located at about 18.8 degrees North latitude - 110.3 degrees East longitude, over the southeast area of Hainan Island (China) and weakened into a low pressure area.

The low pressure moves in a Southeast-east direction at a speed of about 10 km/h. The strongest wind near the center of the low pressure is below level 6.

Due to the influence of the low pressure, the Gulf of Tonkin area has strong winds of level 6, gusts of level 8; waves 1.5–2.5m high, rough seas.

The North and Central East Sea areas (including the Hoang Sa special zone) have strong winds of level 6, sometimes level 7, gusts of level 8; waves 2.0–4.0m high, strong rough seas.

The meteorological agency warns that on the day and night of August 8, the Gulf of Tonkin area will have strong thunderstorms; the North East Sea (including the Hoang Sa special zone), the sea area east of the Central East Sea, Ca Mau to An Giang and the Gulf of Thailand will have showers and scattered thunderstorms. In thunderstorms, there is a high possibility of tornadoes, strong gusts of wind at level 7-8, sea waves over 2.0m high.

On August 9, the North and Central areas of the East Sea (including the Hoang Sa special zone) will have southwest winds of level 6, sometimes level 7, gusts of level 8; waves 3.0-5.0m high, strong rough seas.

The area from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai has West to Southwest wind level 5, sometimes level 6, gusting level 7; waves 2.0-3.0m high, rough seas.

The area from Gia Lai to Lam Dong and the sea area north-south of the East Sea (including the sea area north of the Truong Sa special zone) has southwest wind level 6, gusts level 7-8; waves 2.0-4.0m high, rough seas.

Ships operating in the above-mentioned dangerous areas are likely to be affected by thunderstorms, tornadoes, strong winds, and large waves.

People and tourists planning to visit these sea areas should pay attention to weather developments. Follow local instructions and avoid going out to sea when the sea is rough to ensure safety.
