Tropical depression Ada - predecessor of Typhoon Nokaen - will weaken off the coast of the Philippines, while a new low pressure will appear.

According to the latest storm news from the Philippine Meteorological Agency (DOST-PAGASA), on the morning of January 21, 2026, tropical depression Ada (international name Nokaen) is moving southeast over the Philippine Sea, east of the Central Luzon region.

At 10 am, the center of the Ada tropical depression was identified about 1,245 km east of Central Luzon. This system maintains maximum wind speeds of 55 km/h, gusts of wind up to 70 km/h, strong winds spreading within a radius of about 400 km.

Forecast for the next 12 hours, the tropical depression will continue to move in the Southeast direction. However, due to dry air from the Northeast monsoon coming down, this tropical depression is likely to weaken into a low pressure area on January 21.

In addition to this tropical depression, another low pressure area (LPA 01c) being monitored outside the Philippine Responsibility Area (PAR) is currently unlikely to develop into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours.

Although no longer hanging storm warning signals, the intensified Northeast monsoon still causes strong to very strong winds on a large scale, especially in Luzon, Visayas and many areas in Mindanao on January 21-23.

The Philippine meteorological agency recommends that all types of ships do not go out to sea, and fishermen need to anchor in a safe place until the wind and waves subside.

People and tourists proactively update weather forecasts, especially bulletins about heavy rain, strong winds and rough seas, to ensure safety during the journey.

Tourists who are planning to travel by sea, participate in island tours or coastal activities in the Philippines in the coming days need to closely monitor weather forecasts; limit or postpone ships, ferries, sea tours, especially in the North and East of the Philippines.
